As all residents of Ebbw will know, we have a wide range of people in this town, to say the least!  We do have a few residents who became famous though....

Jeff Banks, fashion designer

Jeff Banks was born in Ebbw Vale in 1943 and grew up in Brirey Hill , aged 8 he left with his mother to live in London, where he gained much of his education.  In 1964, Banks opened his own shop in London, Clobber, where he sold his own design clothes.  He revisited the town in 2006 for an ITV program.

 


Nicky Grist, rally co-driver

 

Born in Ebbw Vale, in November 1961, Nicky Grist is most well known for his co-driving with the late Colin McCrae, one of the worlds best rally drivers, he worked with Colin from 1997 to 2002.  He now lives in Abergavenny with his wife and children.


Bill Randell, comedian & entertainerBryn Davies with his wife Irene

Bill Randell was born in Ebbw Vale in 1922, he is a well know comedian and entertainer in and around the Ebbw Vale area.   He was known to many as 'The Great Randello'.  He spent much of his life fund raising for various charities with his variety of acts.  Bill passed away in 2006 just a week after his wife Mary.

 


 

Mark Williams - Snooker PlayerMark Williams

Born in Cwm in 1975, Mark Williams has gone on to become snooker world champion twice, in 2000 and 2003.  Mark lived in Ebbw Vale in Beech Grove, Victoria up until a few years ago when he moved to Cardiff.  He has recently moved back into the town and has built a house near the lakeside gym.
